Power and Infrastructure Research Group

The Power and Infrastructure Research Group carries out cutting-edge research that provides sustainable and resilient solutions to some of the complex engineering issues faced by humanity in the 21st century.
Our vision in the Power and Infrastructure Research Group in the School of Engineering is to foster a research environment which supports and promotes cross-disciplinary research enabling innovative engineering to provide reliable, safe and resilient infrastructure, transportation and smart energy systems for the cities of the future.

Infrastructure and the Built Environment
Our research looks for solutions for a sustainable and resilient future to effectively use scarce natural resources and ensure ever-increasing urbanisation means cities work for their inhabitants.

Infrastructure Monitoring
Our research transforms our approach to infrastructure through monitoring and smart through improved knowledge leading to well-informed and value-based decision making.

Power and Energy Systems
Advances in electrical power systems are playing a pivotal role in the development of a sustainable energy supply, enabling efficient integration of renewable energy generation into smart grids.

Natural Environment
The natural environment such as wind and water impacts on our infrastructure and built environment. We need to fully understand the forces of nature and water as limiting natural resources.

Understanding and reducing lodging in maize and rice
With climate change creating more extreme weather and a growing world population, it is vital that we develop sustainable ways of improving resilience and productivity of staple crops.

Facilities
Our research plays a pivotal role in reducing environmental impact, increasing sustainable practices by reducing the cement content in concrete and developing recycled aggregates and materials.
