Metamaterials and Nanophotonics

Our mission is to predict and measure how light and matter interact on a scale hidden to most: shorter than a single wavelength of light. By understanding and controlling these subwavelength properties of light and matter, it is possible to unlock powerful new applications across quantum sensing, communication, biophotonics and metrology.
Our group members in fullWe are a diverse group of researchers, bringing together eight interdisciplinary academic members of staff, as well as students and researchers across physics, engineering and chemistry.
Our research themes

Quantum Nanophotonics
We aim to understand new mixed light-matter quantum states emerging in extreme photonic environments and develop novel methods to confine and couple light to explore nanoscale entities dynamics.

Ultrafast Microscopy
Our goal is to sample nonequilibrium dynamics in space and time simultaneously.

Photonic Devices
Our goal is to engineer devices that achieve much higher performance and efficiency than conventional offerings.
