The CIIC is committed to providing the highest quality training in cancer immunology and immunotherapy for the next generation of academics and clinicians.
Academics in the CIIC contribute to a variety of taught and research-based programmes offered at the University of Birmingham. These range from the BSc in Biomedical Science programme which is suitable for undergraduates, through a number of Masters courses including the MSc in Immunology and Immunotherapy, MSc in Clinical Oncology, and the MRes in Cancer Sciences, and also include a choice of different PhD programmes.

“Cancer Sciences MRes is a fantastic course which combines both taught and research elements in a number of fields, including cancer genomics, immunology and immunotherapy. The large research component of the course is a highlight and fantastic opportunity to gain good laboratory experience and learn various new skills. This course helped me build my knowledge and expertise in a plethora of techniques, especially in the field of cancer immunology, which is a research area I am interested in. Gaining all this excellent experience allowed me to get on to do a PhD in this fascinating field.”
A variety of PhD programmes are available, both non-clinical and clinical. These include a four year non-clincial PhD programme funded by the Cancer Research UK Birmingham Centre. We also welcome applications from self-funded students, either UK-based or international.
We also support clinical candidates to apply for a number of three year clinical PhD fellowships, including a variety of external clinical PhD fellowship schemes funded by external funding bodies or charities, such as the Medical Research Council or the Wellcome Trust.
