The Economic Impacts of Brexit on the UK, its Regions, its Cities and its Sectors: London Participatory Workshop

Our ESRC funded Brexit project, as part of the UK in a Changing Europe Initiative, aims to examine in detail the likely impacts of Brexit on the UK’s sectors, regions, and cities. Our analysis draws upon the most detailed regional-national-international trade and competition datasets currently available anywhere in the world, allowing us to examine the impacts of different post-Brexit trade scenarios on UK sectors and regions.

It is critical that we ensure that these academic outputs connect with broader public policy arenas at the national and regional level. Therefore, we are a hosting a series of participatory workshops across the country to engage with city, regional and national stakeholders. The aim of these workshops is to share our regional-specific research findings and collaborate with stakeholders to develop alternative post-Brexit scenarios, considering both what city-regional authorities want and also what policy responses are likely to be most effective.

The workshop will take place in the Turner Suite, Holiday Inn London Bloomsbury, London, WC1N 1HT on Friday 18th May from 12–5.00 pm. Our speakers will bring together a diverse range of views from across the realms of academia, politics, and business, including Professor Dan Wincott (the UK in a Changing Europe), Professor Jonathan Portes (King’s College London, and The UK in a Changing Europe), Andrew Carter (Center for Cities), Ben Gardiner (Cambridge Econometrics), Richard Chaplin (Managing Partners Forum), among many others.
