Catalyst Project Funding

Catalyst funding for pump-priming projects is available to support collaborations between Network members in bacterial vaccinology to explore new approaches and strategies to advance their vaccines in partnership with LMICs and industry, and acquire the data to support substantive funding applications.

The Catalyst Funds are flexible awards of up to £70,000.00 with projects expected to deliver defined outcomes within six months of the award date. For this funding round, all projects must focus on pathogens with outbreak potential.
Please note that the only One Health projects eligible for consideration in this round are those involving zoonotic diseases, specifically pathogens that cross the animal–human species barrier. All other veterinary‑focused research projects fall outside the scope of this call and will not be considered.
As with all BactiVac catalyst project funding calls, all applications need to be relevant to bacterial vaccines/vaccinology, and must be ODA-compliant, with the primary benefit of any funded research being to populations in LMICs.
Priority will be given to projects that also:
- Facilitate onward progression of bacterial vaccines along the pipeline to licensure
- Offer robust solutions to overcome the difficult preclinical to clinical transition
- Involve BactiVac partnerships, particularly new partnerships, with a long-term work plan
- Include LMICs and/or industrial partners
- Demonstrate a clear pathway to impact
- Have realistic plans in place to demonstrate intellectual property (IP) has been considered
- Include plans for achieving further substantive funding at the end of the project
Network Membership Requirement
Please be reminded that Network Membership is a mandatory requirement for all those named on funding applications (lead applicant and all co-applicants). Membership applications can take up to four weeks for processing so please ensure all applicants on funding calls have submitted membership applications in sufficient time for processing.
