The European Research Council CATENA project at ITSEE is recruiting a doctoral student to start in autumn 2019.
The CATENA Project led by Professor Hugh Houghton is investigating the importance of Commentary Manuscripts in the History and Transmission of the Greek New Testament.
Applications are now sought for a full-time doctoral student to join the team in Birmingham, working on the little-studied Catena on the Acts of the Apostles. The student will examine manuscripts of the Catena on the Acts of the Apostles, in order to determine the nature of this compilation and the versions extant in Greek New Testament manuscripts. The expectation is that witnesses will be selected, transcribed and collated in order to make the first-ever critical edition of the commentary.
Applicants should have an excellent first degree in a relevant subject such as New Testament or Classics, and is also expected to have completed or be in the process of completing a Masters degree. Candidates must be able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in New Testament Greek; experience of working with ancient or medieval manuscripts and knowledge of editorial technique are also desirable. Candidates are expected to be computer literate.
