In this seminar, David Scott, Ruth and William Lubic Professor at Colombia University, will offer reflections on the ‘prolonged dialogue’ he held with Stuart Hall, with reference to the 1997 interview ‘Politics, Contingency, Strategy’ published in the inaugural issue of small axe; ‘Responsiveness to the Present’, the second letter of his book Stuart Hall’s Voice: Intimations of an ethics of receptive generosity (2017); and ‘A Sense of Displacement: Stuart Hall’s art of living’ (2023)—’prolegomenon to a biography of Stuart Hall’
