Dr Scott Harrison has joined the Phenome Centre Birmingham in Biosciences, as Operational Director. He came from the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability at the Danish Technical University in Copenhagen, where he had established a facility for the analysis of microbial metabolism, as Director of Analytics.  Prior to that, Scott worked at AgResearch in New Zealand on analytical methods to understand the biosynthesis of sugar polymers in perennial ryegrass, for which he was awarded a PhD from the University of Auckland.

His research interests include metabolomics especially microbial and mammalian systems, as well as the analysis of sugars and their role biology. The Phenome Centre Birmingham is a new £8m facility, partly funded by the MRC, that aims to apply metabolomics to translational medicine. It will become operational in January 2016.
