The School of Computer Science is happy to be able to recognise and reward our incoming International undergraduate students, to celebrate your excellent academic achievements before arriving as a student at the University of Birmingham.
International Achievement Scholarship
The Computer Science International Achievement Scholarship consists of a tuition fee discount of £1500 during semester 1 of the first year of study for all students who meet the criteria listed. This award is renewable in subsequent academic years subject to the conditions outlined below.
Applicants will be considered if they obtain:
- A*AA at A level (including A level Mathematics) or international equivalent in university-entrance qualifications
How to apply
No application is required, successful applicants will be contacted by the beginning of September 2025.
Conditions
To be eligible for this award on entry to the university you must:
- Obtain the following results (or equivalent in other qualification systems) which must include Mathematics:
- A Levels: A*AA
- IB: 7, 6, 6 from Higher Levels
- HKDSE: 5*,5,5
- Indian Standard XII: Overall: 90% ISC, CBSE, Maharashtra; or 85% West Bengal; or 92% Other State board
- Malaysia - One of the following:
- STPM: Grades equivalent to A level grades above (A*AA)
- UEC: Overall grade A2
- Malaysian Ministry of Education Matriculation programme: Students with a GPA 3.4 and above will be considered
- 75% overall in Kaplan programme (excluding English modules)
- American system: Please see our USA undergraduate entry requirements for A Level equivalencies
- Be classified as International for fees on your acceptance to the university
- Be accepted to one of the following courses for year 1 entry in 2025 after placing it as firm choice in UCAS:
To renew this award in a subsequent year of study you must
- Hold this award in the previous academic year
- Achieve full credits and 70%-year average at the first attempt in your previous year of study at Birmingham
- Renewal will pause for year in industry or international study and will restart during your return to study at Birmingham based on the performance from the year before your year out
- The award will be automatically allocated to you by our team, no further application is required
International Excellence Scholarship
The Computer Science International Excellence Scholarship consists of a tuition fee discount of £3000 during semester 1 of the first year of study for all students who meet the criteria listed.
Applicants will be considered if they obtain:
- A*A*A at A level (including A level Mathematics) or international equivalent in university-entrance qualifications

This Computer Science Excellence award (£3000) is not renewable and cannot be held in conjunction with the Computer Science International Achievement Scholarship in first year.
Students may be eligible however to obtain the Computer Science International Achievement Scholarship (£1500) for subsequent years of study after completion of year 1, if they meet the following criteria. Students must:
- Hold the Computer Science International Excellence Scholarship in the first academic year
- Achieve 70%-year average at the first attempt in your previous year of study
- Renewal will pause for year abroad, industrial year or international study and will restart during your return to study in the School of Computer Science at University of Birmingham based on the performance from the year before your year out
- The award will be automatically allocated to you by our team, no further application is required
