Dr Isabel Galleymore’s new collection ‘Cyanic Pollens’ has been published by Guillemot Press.

Based on her time as poet-in-residence in the Peruvian Amazon, Isabel Galleymore’s new sequence Cyanic Pollens explores a site of pristine nature and the demands we make of it, whether aesthetic or extractive. Spider monkeys and moths are subjects of intimate study – so, too, are tourists and their rainforest guides. This is new territory for Isabel, and she navigates it with a playful, but questioning eye.

As if I were one of the many flowers
the long-tailed hermit traps and tongues,
I can't stop the air indulging in me.
At night, wings unbutton to hairy chests.
Poison choruses or stiffens.
I'm told the more I let myself be touched
the less I will be bitten
