We are pleased to announce Institute participation in two funded projects with LMU University, Munich. One is a DFG funded project titled 'Civic Shakespeare' and is co-ordinated by Professors Tobias Döring (LMU) and Ewan Fernie (SI). Institute Director Michael Dobson and Fellow Dr Erin Sullivan are also part of the research team.

The other project is funded by the Centre of Advanced Study at LMU, where Professor Döring will be in residence next year, and Professor Fernie will be a Visiting Research Fellow, and is for a related research project investigating Anglo-German Shakespeare in crisis. The project will culminate in an international conference on Shakespeare and Thomas Mann, one focus of Professor Fernie's just-completed book, The Demonic: Literature and Experience.  This second project also involves one of our research students, David Paxton, who is writing about Shakespeare and Wagner.
