The Journal of Philosophy in Schools (JPS) has a new home and a new look!
The JPS is a world leading journal that focuses on academic research into the pedagogy and practice of philosophy in schools. It has now moved to the University of Birmingham (along with its editors, Prof Andrew Peterson and Dr Laura D'Olimpio). With the support of Library Services, it is published as Diamond Open Access, with no fees to either submit or access content.
To celebrate the move, we are launching with the new issue Volume 7 Number 1 (2020), now available at https://jps.bham.ac.uk/. This issue features papers presented at the Federation of Australasian Philosophy in Schools Associations Conference which was held at The University of Notre Dame Australia’s Fremantle Campus 10-11 July, 2018.
In this issue, we have researchers and practitioners represented from Australia, Finland, New Zealand, Taiwan, and the United States of America. This international and multicultural mix serves to remind us that we can all learn from one another, share wisdom and seek best practice.
What was once called Philosophy for Children (P4C) has developed into a sub-discipline of philosophy with its own history, traditions and pedagogy and incorporates philosophical inquiry in the classroom, reflective education and Socratic dialogue through the use of the Community of Inquiry (CoI) methodology.
During these unprecedented times of lockdown in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope you enjoy these interesting papers and book reviews. With more parents involved in home schooling their children, we are grateful to the philosophy in schools community who continue to offer their support and expertise.
