The new academic year 2012-2013 sees some important changes to the Department of History of Art at Birmingham. In August 2012 we expanded to become the Department of Art History, Film, and Visual Studies, welcoming new colleagues in the process.

Dr Kate Ince, with teaching and research interests in French film and visual culture, is the new Head of Department. Dr. Alex Marlow-Mann with interests in Italian and Japanese cinema, joins us from the University of St Andrews. Dr Laura Hutchinson joins us this year as a teaching fellow providing cover for Dr Francesca Berry, who will be on maternity. Rob Stone, Professor of European Cinema and Director of B-Film, will be joining us from Swansea University, and his interests lie in European and World Cinema, Modernism and film, and film aesthetics and politics.

We look forward to working with these new colleagues and are sure their expertise will be of great benefit to the Department.
