Rather than us allocating your accommodation, you will be able to choose the exact room to suit you, ensuring you feel at home from day one.

How to apply

Applications open on 1 December 2025 and close on 31 July 2026.

You can apply for accommodation as soon as you have your offer letter. We encourage you to do this even if we’re your insurance choice.

To get started, you’ll need to visit our Accommodation Portal and create an account. You’ll be able to apply as soon as your account has been set up. This can take up to 48 hours, so please don’t worry if you don’t have access right away. If you’re unable to login after this time, please get in touch.

We guarantee some postgraduate students a place in our accommodation. Check out our guarantee schemes page to check if you’re eligible. If you’re not, we still recommend applying, as you’ll have the chance to book a room if we have availability in one of our villages. Alternatively, we can support you to find a home in the private sector.

Booking your room at the University of Birmingham is easier than ever before. Rather than us allocating your accommodation, you can now choose the exact room to suit you, ensuring you feel at home from day one.

If you’re a UK postgraduate student, you won’t be able to book your room until after 31 July 2026. International postgrad? You can book your room through the Accommodation Portal in January. Please see our ‘How to book your room’ page for more information.

Secure your room

Once you’ve found your perfect room, you’ll need to pay a £550 Advance Payment to secure it. Alternatively, you can pay for your accommodation fees in full.

Please note that the Advance Payment is an initial instalment towards your accommodation fees, not a deposit. This means that it won’t be refunded to you at the end of your contract.

If you’ve chosen a room with one of our partners, you may be required to pay an Advance Payment or a deposit to secure your room. They’ll be in touch as soon as you’ve completed your booking.

Current students

We have a limited number of rooms available for returning students. If you’re interested in living with us again next year, register your interest through the Accommodation Portal from 1 December 2025. We’ll be in touch in January to invite you to book a room if we have availability.
