Pro-bono consultancy with entrepreneurs across Africa and Asia

Grow Movement Initiative, led by Dr Ahmad Bhatti

Through our partnership with Grow Movement, MBA students act as pro-bono consultants to entrepreneurs in emerging economies.

Working in small teams over five to six weeks, students support business owners across countries such as Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Ghana, and the Philippines, addressing challenges in marketing, sales, financial management, and growth strategy.

Students follow a structured consulting roadmap, moving from discovery and diagnosis through to co-creating solutions and delivering final recommendations.

Highlights:

  • Client sales growth of up to 40%
  • Award-winning business outcomes
  • Strong development in cross-cultural leadership

Work on live business challenges with partner organisations

Company Projects

Students collaborate with organisations to tackle real business problems, applying knowledge of strategy, leadership, marketing, finance, and operations.

Recent projects included companies such as Microsoft, BT and Sebring.

Projects provide hands-on experience in solving complex challenges while developing consultancy and stakeholder management skills.

What you will gain:

  • Real-world problem-solving
  • Client engagement experience
  • Exposure to industry practice

International study experience at IIM Bangalore

IIM Bangalore International Study Trip

Students can take part in an international study programme at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.

The programme includes masterclasses on AI, big data, and contemporary management, alongside industry visits and cultural immersion. The experience helps students broaden their global outlook and connect academic learning with international business practice, innovation and leadership.

Paid UK internships with the End of Study Internship Scheme

End of Study Internships

Full-time MBA students have the opportunity to participate in a 10-week paid internship with a UK-based company when they complete their programme. These internships are sourced by our dedicated Birmingham Business School Careers team so students can focus on their programme. More than 32% of students are now employed by the company they undertook the internship with and 50% of candidates extended their internship or were offered employment by another company.

High-intensity consulting simulation with Deloitte

Deloitte Consultancy Challenge

The Birmingham MBA Deloitte Consultancy Challenge is an immersive experience designed to simulate the world of management consultancy. MBA students praise the Deloitte Consultancy Challenge as being one of the most stimulating and rewarding experiences on the programme.

The experience is a week-long intensive challenge, where students engage in a high-stakes consulting scenario that replicates a major business acquisition and consolidation. Students work directly with Deloitte consultants, including senior partners, to tackle complex strategic issues, such as environmental, social, and governance factors, and geographical expansion.
