Funding and money

Get the right funds in place

We want you to be free to enjoy university life, without having to worry about money. So you can get the right funds in place before you join us, here are some options to help you manage your finances.

Scholarships

The first place you can look for financial support is a scholarship.

These are offered to make sure students achieving outstanding grades aren’t held back by the limits of what they can afford. At the University of Birmingham, we offer a range of international scholarships for students around the world. You can apply for scholarships and funding according to the region you live in.

What fees will I have to pay?

To cover the cost of your tuition, exams and graduation, we charge a yearly tuition fee. This means you pay once a year, at the start of your course. Your fee will vary depending on the area and level you’re studying, but you’ll find it quoted on your offer letter from the University. Depending on your situation, your fees will be classed as ‘home’ or ‘overseas’.

Do I need money to get my visa?

As part of your application for a Student Route visa, you’ll need to prove you have enough money to cover your course and the cost of living here while you study. Make sure you have the funds in your bank account for a full 28 days, then provide a bank statement dated within one month of you submitting your application showing the money in your account. Just remember, to always check the latest requirements when you make your student visa application as these may change.

How to pay your tuition fees

Everyone likes to pay differently, so we like to be flexible. You can choose from a range of payment options and either pay in full, or smaller instalments by Direct Debit. If you’re paying in full, you can also choose between credit card and PayPal.

Once you complete your Online Registration, you’ll get an invoice confirming your tuition fees for the year. It will also show the date by which you need to pay, or apply to pay in instalments by Direct Debit.
