Accommodation and getting set up

What to pack, what to leave at home

You might be tempted to throw everything in your suitcase, but you can’t bring everything with you!

It makes sense to pack for the seasonal British weather. It gets cold in winter and sometimes we can have a few seasons in just one day. So it helps to bring clothes to wear for all times of the year.

Yet most of the comforts you’re used to at home can be bought once you’re here, from clothing, cutlery, plates and bowls, to bedding, rice cookers, microwaves and anything else you can think of.

Most superstores are only a short walk away, plus you can order virtually anything online.

Top tip: you may be able to buy these with your new flatmates, so you can split the cost and save money.

What’s included in my accommodation?

To make it easier to plan and pack, you can see what’s included in the University accommodation you may be living in. You may find lots of the things you need are already provided, meaning you can pack much lighter. If you’re living in private rented accommodation, we’d recommend checking what’s included with your provider.
