Checklist

Make life easier when you get here

During your first days at the University, there are a few things you can do to make it easier to adapt. Here’s a quick checklist with the most important things to remember.

Just Arrived Checklist

1. Join us for Welcome Week

Our welcome period starts with Arrivals Weekend. It’s important to not miss our Welcome events. Certainly not the ones you’d like to attend. Especially not your induction and orientation. This is where you’ll learn all about your School or College, meet new friends and find your way around campus. There’ll be lots of fun activities, including our Guild of Students events.

2. Get set up with all your IT

To access all our online services, you’ll need to be connected to our IT. It will make all the difference in the world to your studies, making life so much easier from day one.

You’ll already have completed your Online Registration, where you’ll have been given your own student email. Make sure you check your inbox every day. Especially during your first few weeks, where you’ll get lots of information on your induction and course. We’ll email you throughout the year, so check your student email regularly. Even better, link it to another email account so you don’t miss any important messages from us.

There are lots of ways to set up and check your email using your mobile, tablet or laptop.

3. Get the MyUoB app

Did you know you can access your student email on your phone? Using the MyUoB app, you can stay updated on all the latest information and news that applies to you. Plus, you can use it to find your way around with a live campus map. Getting the app will make your first days and weeks here so much easier. So download it as soon as you can.

4. Take care of your health

Moving countries and starting university can be bit of a challenging time for some students. You may be cooking for yourself for the first time and have a busier life than you’re used to. That’s why it’s a wise to do a few basic things to keep yourself healthy. Registering with a local doctor is one. They’re called GPs here in the UK. Another is to set yourself up with a dentist and get any vaccinations you might need.

Your GP (General Practitioner) will be able to help you with vaccinations, contraception and anything else you might need when it comes to medicines or healthcare. But while you’re settling in to life at university, don’t forget to eat healthy as well. And get plenty of rest when you need it.

Don’t forget about Covid-19

We encourage everyone in our university community to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Anybody aged 18 or over in the UK is eligible for the COVID -19 vaccination for free, regardless of their nationality or immigration status. If you’re not already fully vaccinated then you can receive a first, second or booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the UK. We recommend getting your vaccination as soon as you can.
