Programme key dates

Programme start date and duration

• All research projects normally commence on 21 June 2027.
• The duration of the programme will be 7 weeks.
• You should plan to arrive at the campus and check into your accommodation between 19 and 20 June 2027.

Application dates

Nominations and Applications for the summer research programme 2027 will open on 1 December 2026. Recommendation is to apply early as research projects will be allocated on a first come, first served basis (subject to interviews).

Deadline round 1 - Early Bird Round (includes a £250 discount available to all applicants)

• The deadline for partners' nominations is 1 February 2027
• The deadline for last applications is 15 February 2027
• The last payment deadline is 25 April 2027

On 16 February, round 1 applications will be shared with research labs for shortlisting. Selected applicants will be invited to interview, and research projects will be allocated to Round 1 applicants as a priority.

Deadline round 2

• The deadline for partners' nominations is 1 March 2027
• The deadline for last applications is 15 March 2027
• The last payment deadline is 25 April 2027

Applications received during round 2 (16 February to 15 March) will be sent to research labs on 16 March for shortlisting. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview. As some projects may have already been allocated, the list of available research projects will be confirmed at the interview stage.

Fee and add-on costs

Programme fee

The Birmingham summer research programme fee is £4,826.00 (this includes tuition fees, bench fees, campus services fees, and accommodation). 

Accommodation

Guaranteed en‑suite accommodation based in a self-catering apartment on campus. Please find more information about our campus accommodation.

Food and miscellaneous

The costs for food are not included in the programme fee. See our guide to shopping for food on a budget around the campus.

Other (optional) fees may include cultural and social activities and access to the Gym and Sport facilities on campus.

Scholarships and discounts

Early Bird discount: £250 (open to all applicants if application received by 15th February 2027).

Partnership discount: £250 (all nominated students benefit from the partnership discount).

Exchange-Partnership Scholarship may be available (please check with your institution or contact us).
