The Birmingham Summer Research programme durations are 6, 7, or 8 weeks. Please find more information in the table below to determine the programme start and end date. Please note that all research projects offered in this programme vary in duration and the costs may update accordingly.

Programme key dates
Programme start date and duration
- All research projects normally commence on 22 June 2026.
- The duration of the programme may last for 6, 7 or 8 weeks, depending on the project.
- Some flexibility on start and departure dates may apply according to the project duration.
- You should plan to arrive at the campus and check into your accommodation between 20 and 21 June 2026.
Application dates
- The deadline for partners' nominations is 15 April 2026.
- The deadline for last applications is 1 May 2026.
- The last payment deadline is 21 May 2026 (TBC).
Fee and add-on costs
Programme fee
The Birmingham summer research programme fee is £2,700.00, regardless of the duration (this includes tuition fees, bench fees, and administrative costs).
Accommodation and food
- Accommodation cost is additional, ranging between £1,400 and £1,999 for an 8-week project (pro rata applied for shorter durations). Please find more information about our campus accommodation.
- The accommodation is based in a self-catering apartment.
- The costs for food are not included in the programme fee or accommodation costs. See our guide to shopping for food on a budget around the campus.
Other (optional) fees may include cultural and social activities and access to the Gym and Sport facilities on campus.

Right to cancel
You may cancel your place on the Birmingham summer research programme, and we will provide a refund to the payee of your fees, if you notify us in writing that:
- You are exercising your right to cancel within 14 days from the payment.
- You do not meet the English language requirements (proof required).
- Your visa application was unsuccessful (proof required).
