Step 1:
If you are a student at one of our partner institutions, your international/study abroad office must first submit your nomination using the nomination form. Being nominated verifies that you are a current student at our partner institution and become eligible to receive partner discount.
Step 2:
Once your home institution has submitted your nomination, please use this application form to apply for the programme. Before applying, review the entry requirements and prepare your transcript, personal statement, and any required English language certificate.

If your university in not a current partner with us, follow the steps below to submit our application form for Birmingham summer research programme.
Step 1:
Register on the application portal, log in, complete the application form, and submit it with all required documents.
Step 2:
Before applying, review the entry requirements and prepare your transcript, personal statement, and any required English language certificate.

To apply for the Birmingham summer research programme, you will need to upload:
- an academic transcript for at least two prior academic years in a full-time higher education demonstrating high academic standing, at least equivalent to a 2:1 / 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
- a personal statement (max. 400 words) demonstrating good subject knowledge, good understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods and the reason why you wish to attend the Birmingham Summer Research Programme at the University of Birmingham.
- English Language Proficiency (ELP) certificate (if applicable)

Please note that scholarship applications will only be reviewed when submitted alongside an application to the AI safety and security summer research experience project.
Once you have submitted the programme application form, you may then apply for the scholarship by submitting the completed scholarship application form.

What happens next?
Once we receive your application, our team will shortlist the applicants and pass them on to the host school/ supervisor. The host school/ supervisor will shortlist the applicants for a final interview before offering a place on the Birmingham summer research programme. Once you have been made an offer of a place you will receive an offer letter.
