The applications for the Birmingham summer research programme 2026 is open. Please read the below information carefully before submitting your application.

Step 1:
If you are a student at one of our current partner institutions, your international office / study abroad office will nominate you for our Birmingham summer research programme at the University of Birmingham. Please contact your own study abroad office if you are unsure whether we are current partners or not.
Step 2:
Once you have been nominated by your home institution, we will directly send you a link to our programme application form.
Step 3:
Please check our entry requirements before applying for the Birmingham summer research programme.
Step 4:
Prepare all your evidence before you start your application. This will include your transcript, and your personal statement. You may be required to add English language proficiency certificate, depending on your nationality. Please register first and then proceed with submitting your application along with all the required documents.

If your university in not a current partner with us, you can still apply for Birmingham summer research programme at the University of Birmingham.
Step 1:
Please check our entry requirements, identify the research project you wish to apply for and prepare your documents (transcript, personal statement, and English language proficiency certificate).
Step 2:
Please register on the application portal to access the form.
Step 3:
Login to the application portal and submit your application with all the required documents.

To apply for the Birmingham summer research programme, you will need to upload:
- an academic transcript for at least two prior academic years in a full-time higher education demonstrating high academic standing, at least equivalent to a 2:1 / 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
- a personal statement (max. 400 words) demonstrating good subject knowledge, good understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methods and the reason why you wish to attend the Birmingham Summer Research Programme at the University of Birmingham.
- English Language Proficiency (ELP) certificate (if applicable)

What happens next?
Once we receive your application, our team will shortlist the applicants and pass them on to the host school/ supervisor. The host school/ supervisor will shortlist the applicants for a final interview before offering a place on the Birmingham summer research programme. Once you have been made an offer of a place you will receive an offer letter.

All students who have had an offer will be sent full details of the orientation events by email. It is important that you check your emails regularly, as some of our events will be tailored individually for you.
