Join us on this 1-year full-time programme comprising of taught modules during terms 1 and 2 followed by a Summer Dissertation. The taught modules are assessed using a combination of coursework and examinations.
You'll take 60 credits of compulsory modules across various areas of Data Science. All examinations will take place during the May/June main examination period.
You'll attend a number of lectures and/or hands on teaching for each 20-credit module. There are also MSc group tutorial meetings.
Term 2 follows the same format as term 1 with you taking 60 credits of compulsory modules across various areas of Data Science.

During this term you'll be focussed on completing your 60 credit MSc Project. You'll be assigned a personal supervisor to support your research on a topic of your choice in Data Science.
Your Project will involve a written project report, an oral presentation and a viva.
Supplementary examinations will take place as required in August.

You will gain hands-on experience of analysing data using the Python programming language, learn how to interpret data, and understand the applications of data analysis and machine learning methodologies used for real-world applications. Taught by one of the UK’s leading Physics departments, this programme will equip students to excel in today’s highly competitive job market.
Our world-class research and a vibrant, global student community are at the heart of our School of Physics and Astronomy. You'll take part in tutorials, classes and project work to consolidate your learning. In the third term, you'll work with your personal supervisor to conduct your project.
Across the seven modules there are a variety of assessment methods, including examinations, presentations, project work, written reports and computing worksheets
This programme is a 1-year full time taught masters degree (180 credits) consisting of 120 credits of taught modules and a 60 credit project. The project is completed under the direction of a project supervisor.

To gain a place at Birmingham you will need to meet our general entry requirements, as well as those specific to your course. Your application will be reviewed by the course’s Admissions Tutor, who will decide whether your application should receive an offer.
The programme is not designed for recent graduates of Computer Science but could be taken by those returning to study. This programme is specifically designed for those from a numerate discipline who are proficient in using calculus or have a grade A in A-level Mathematics.
If you are an international student, you will need to demonstrate you have a suitable level of English proficiency, usually through the form of an IELTS or equivalent qualification or a Presessional English course.

If you have a conditional offer for Birmingham where English is a requirement, you can take a Presessional English course as an alternative to retaking IELTS or a similar qualification. We offer on-campus courses all year round starting from September including additional online courses in the summer term. Teaching takes place in small classes with no more than 18 students to maximise class participation.

The University tuition fee covers the cost of your tuition, supervision, assessment and includes membership to the Guild of Students.

The fees quoted are for one year only. For those studying courses that are longer than one year, tuition fees will also be payable in subsequent years of your programme.

To help with the cost of studies, this loan is available to all UK students. You can use this loan towards fees, maintenance or other costs at your own discretion. It’s available for all full-time, part-time and distance learning Masters programmes, as long as you don’t already have a Masters qualification (or equivalent).If you’re a student from Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can apply for Masters loans from your country’s government.
