Course overview
This course allows learners to critically analyse and evaluate the principles of advancing nursing science.
You'll explore the development of nursing knowledge and to promote the integration of nursing philosophies, theories and research with practice. There will be opportunity to critically discuss contemporary issues and critical reflection on how advances in nursing science will influence you personally and professionally.
The course structure is blended, with academic support to identify and develop an individualised timetable of experiential work-based learning. You'll work with the academic team to apply new knowledge and insight to your practice through the production of original and academic evidence of your personal learning.
Course delivery
This course offers opportunities for collaborative learning and engagement with visiting lecturers, clinical leaders and researchers.
Learning outcomes
- Critically appraise the development of nursing knowledge and the integration of nursing philosophies, theories and research with practice.
- Critically explore the challenges and opportunities that nurses face within the context of advancing nursing science.
- Debate the professional, political, legal and ethical demands of working within the context of advancing nursing science.
- Identify and critically reflect on your own role in advancing nursing science.
Assessment
100% reflective essay 3000 words- the student provides evidence-based analysis of the themes appearing or absent within their 3 or 4 patchwork texts. This reflexive analysis leads to a perspective transformation and to new learning to inform future practice.
