Teach the Teachers Non-credit

This course is suitable for all healthcare professionals with an interest in education, whether they are new to educational practice or looking to refresh and develop their existing knowledge and skills.

It is relevant to anyone involved in teaching, supervision and assessment, or in supporting the learning of others across a range of healthcare settings.

For healthcare professionals wishing to develop their educational practice, this course also provides an ideal introduction to postgraduate study and may act as a stepping stone to the University of Birmingham's Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) in Education for Health Professionals. 

Teach the Teachers will help you enhance the quality of learning experiences and outcomes for students, trainees and colleagues across the health professions.

The course is suitable for healthcare professionals from a wide range of disciplines and career stages.

In this interprofessional learning environment, participants will share experiences, explore diverse educational perspectives and learn from one another.

This collaborative approach reflects the realities of healthcare education, fostering the exchange of ideas and best practice across professional boundaries.

You’ll put your learning into practice by planning and delivering a short teaching session, with opportunities to receive constructive feedback and reflect on your development as an educator.

Course outcomes

Learners who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate confirming their participation and completion of 12 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity.

For doctors applying to NHS specialty training programmes, a recognised Teach the Teacher course such as this may attract points within the teaching domain of some specialty recruitment self-assessments. Applicants should consult the self-assessment guidance for their intended specialty, as eligibility criteria and scoring vary between specialties and recruitment rounds.

This course is delivered in person and includes:

• Interactive workshops
• Taught sessions

You'll practise teaching skills, receive constructive feedback, and reflect on your own educational practice in a supportive learning environment. 

Our teaching methods will enable you to build your confidence and develop approaches that can be readily applied within your own workplace.

Course instructor

This short course is taught by Dr Abbie Meacham, an experienced clinical educator and the academic lead for the Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert) in Education for Health Professionals at the University of Birmingham. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA) and a Member of the Academy of Medical Educators (MAcadMEd).

This course is suitable for all healthcare professionals who have an interest in teaching, supervising and/or supporting learners in practice.
