How did you know that the University of Birmingham was the right choice for you?
The moment I stepped onto campus, I felt a real sense of community. When attending my offer-holder visit day, I got the opportunity to hear from academics and learn about the wide range of opportunities available across the course, careers and social life. This, along with the Business School’s impressive rankings and graduate outcomes, made me confident that Birmingham was a place where I could grow, both personally and professionally,
Why did you choose to study your course?
I chose to study BSc Business Management with Marketing with a Year in Industry because it offers a broad understanding of business while allowing flexibility to select modules that reflect interests and career goals. I was drawn to how versatile the course is, and that has proven true through the wide range of opportunities and activities I’ve been able to get involved in during my time at university. The modules don’t just teach theory, they give real life examples, so you have practical experience preparing you for life after university.
What is student life like for you?
Student life for me has been all about getting involved and discovering who I am. University gives you independence, and I’ve loved making the most of it. I’ve tried a variety of sports, including netball, badminton, and football, and this year I joined the Benchball Society, where I’ve made great friends. In my second year, I joined the Marketing Society committee, which has been an amazing experience both socially and professionally. There’s a great balance between academics and social life, with plenty of support available when you need it. What makes Birmingham special is the huge range of societies, whether that be sports or hobbies so there’s always something new to try. It really does offer an incredible student experience.
What’s your favourite memory of university life so far?
As I’m now in my fourth and final year, it’s hard to choose just one memory. Instead, what stands out most is the people I’ve met along the way. I’ve made so many meaningful friendships that have influenced my university experience and will stay with me long after I graduate.
What advice would you give to current or prospective students?
Say yes to every opportunity and attend as many events as you can. At Birmingham, there’s so much available to you. In my first year, I took part in a consultancy challenge in collaboration with Enterprise Rent A Car, which was an amazing experience where I got the opportunity to work with a great group of people. I’ve personally really enjoyed networking events and taking on roles such as Student Ambassador and Student Content Shaper. As a final year student, I really recognise the importance in getting involved, making an impact, and leaving your mark.
