The process of securing a live client project felt very similar to applying for a job. We were required to submit a CV and cover letter, which added a real-world element to the experience and helped prepare us for future career opportunities.
What I found particularly helpful was the support available from the University’s Careers Network. They offered CV and cover letter reviews, helping us refine our applications and giving us the confidence to put ourselves forward for projects we were genuinely interested in.
The project briefs were also released a couple of weeks before applications opened, which gave us time to properly review the opportunities and think about which projects aligned best with our strengths, interests, and long-term career goals. This meant that when it came to applying, I felt I was making an informed decision about a project that would both challenge me and support my professional development.
At Birmingham, I also really valued the guest lectures and industry sessions that were organised for us. They brought in real-world insights and practical perspectives that helped bring the course to life and made the learning feel relevant and current.
I felt like there was a real effort to connect academic learning with the realities of the industry, which made the whole experience feel special.
