I am a first-year student studying Applied Golf Management Studies and this is my day in the life at UOB. On a Monday, I try to start the week off right by waking up at 5:30am and having a quick breakfast of overnight oats before heading to the gym for 6am. I like going to the gym early in the morning as it sets me up for the day and it’s usually a lot quieter! It can also be nice to catch the sunrise, depending on the time of the year!
I then come home and get ready for a day at the Belfry. We usually leave around 9:15am, just in case of traffic and our morning lecture starts at 10am. From 10am to 12:30pm, we are usually in either the swing room or workshop, learning about custom fitting and club building. Whether it’s learning about ball flights or how to put a club together, this part of the course is always the most exciting.
Once we’ve finished our lecture for the day, we have between 30 mins and an hour to eat lunch and we sometimes head to the range. Lunch for me is always something quick I can prep in the morning, like a chicken wrap or salad. It can be a nice break to hit some balls and grab a bite to eat before heading to the afternoon’s extracurricular session. The afternoon session varies, sometimes it’s a first aid course, safeguarding or personal development, but it’s all things that are designed to help us along the journey of working in golf.
I’m back home by about 5:30pm and I like to meet some friends for a walk to catch up and decompress. It’s nice to end the day with a bit of movement and some fresh air after a productive day.
I usually meal prep at the weekend so I’ll have one of these. I normally can’t be bothered to cook after a full day, so it’s nice and easy to heat in the microwave and curl up to watch a bit of TV. I wind down the evening with a good book and maybe a hot chocolate, ready to get up early the next day.
