Starting university is an exciting chapter in life, full of new opportunities and experiences. However, it can also feel daunting, especially when it comes to making friends. In this blog I will help you navigate this journey in your life with three top tips in making new friends.
Top Tip 1
Say hello to you new flatmates! - When you move into halls it can be a scary idea living with people you've never met before but don't worry! Go knock on their doors and say hi and this can help ease your mind about living with strangers and it'll help them too as they are in the same boat! A simple hello to your new flatmates can be the start of a whole new friendship!
Top Tip 2
Use Freshers Week to its full potential - Freshers’ Week (or Welcome Week) is made to help new students settle in and meet new people. Attend as many gatherings and society fairs as you can. These events are designed to help students who are also looking to make friends. Don't hesitate to step out of your comfort zone and introduce yourself to new people!!
Top Tip 3
Join Societies - One of the best ways to meet other students who share the same interests as you is by joining university societies. Whether you’re interested in sports, music, gaming, volunteering, or academic societies, there’s something for everyone. Participating in a society regularly can be the start of an exciting and long term friendship!
All in all, University is the time to meet like minded, diverse people and it's important to know that everyone is in the same situation as you! If you engage in these top tips, making friends at University will become so much easier than you'd think!
