Looking Forward to University Life

Before coming to university, I was most excited about moving into the accommodation provided by the University of Birmingham. I couldn’t wait to move out and settle into what would become my new home for the next year.

Preparing to Move In

Preparing to move in was one of the most exciting parts of the experience. I loved buying my new cutlery and cookware sets and deciding how I wanted my room to look. At the same time, I felt both excited and nervous about meeting my flatmates, as I didn’t know what to expect from living with new people.

Making My Room Feel Like Home

I decided to decorate my room the minute I moved in to make it feel more homely. This helped me tremendously in getting comfortable with living alone in a new city surrounded by new people. Having a space that felt personal made the transition much easier.

Making Friends in Student Halls

Living in student halls has helped me a lot when it came to making new friends. My newfound freedom encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things with new people. Within the first week, I had already made friends who are still some of my closest friends as the year comes to an end.

Living With Flatmates

My flatmates were all kind and clean people, so even though I had to share toilets, they were kept clean most of the time, as was the kitchen. There were never any major issues in our flat, such as loud noise complaints or cleanliness problems, which made living together very enjoyable.

Facilities and Support at Pritchatts Park

Pritchatts Park also has a reception that provides help at any time, which was very reassuring. There is also a 24-hour launderette, allowing us to do our laundry whenever it suited us. You can find out more about Pritchatts Park accommodation here.

Final Thoughts

Making the decision to move into student halls was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It helped me grow as a person and made it much easier to form meaningful friendships. Although moving away from home might not be for everyone, it was the best thing I have done for myself, and I hope other students can feel the same way too.
