I chose Chemical Engineering at Birmingham because it aligned with the subjects I had previously studied during my Foundation Year: Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics. Although I didn’t initially have a strong passion for the subject, its focus on mathematics and problem-solving strongly suited my strengths. As I’ve progressed through the degree, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for the subject matter and its real-world impact.

I have really enjoy the opportunities to gain experiences across a wide variety of disciplines and areas during my degree. I’ve gained insights into core engineering chemical systems and processes , economics, regulations, engineering mathematics, business and entrepreneurship, programming and many other fields. This has shaped me to become a more well rounded individual and I’m grateful for the knowledge I’ve gained during this course. The opportunities to do practical work in a variety of methods such as group settings, presentations, ‘Dragon’s Den’ style pitches, and lab reports has made this course really enjoyable for me.

Birmingham’s prestige was a major factor in my decision to apply, I had always dreamt of attending a top university and when I was provided the opportunity to study at Birmingham, I couldn’t pass it up. I was drawn to the concept of attending a campus university and was impressed by the large, beautiful campus.

As an international student moving away from home for the first time, feeling a sense of community was really important to me and Birmingham’s diverse and welcoming environment allowed me to settle in comfortably. Knowing several of my friends from my home country were also planning to attend Birmingham and the surrounding universities reinforced my decision.
