Why you should attend your Business Management offer-holder visit day

Find out more about Maisie's experience with offer-holder visit days and why you should attend yours.

Students on campus green lawn with clock tower and modern buildings on a sunny day.

One of the biggest surprises for me was the campus. I had seen pictures online, but in person it was so much more than I expected. There was such a strong community feel, students sitting together on the grass, chatting over lunch, and making the most of the space. There were so many study areas, and the sports facilities really stood out. Walking around campus felt surreal, and I could immediately picture myself studying there. Visiting the Vale accommodation was another highlight as it was so scenic compared to other university accommodations that I’d previously visited, and I actually ended up choosing the exact one I saw that day.

What helped me make my decision?

The offer-holder visit day played a huge role in helping me decide. Hearing directly from academics gave me a real insight into what studying at university would be like. The taster lectures only confirmed the excellent teaching standard at Birmingham, as the content was incredibly engaging and well-presented. It was also clear how much support and opportunity were available, from networking to career development. The campus tour tied everything together and helped me imagine my day-to-day life at UoB.

Why are offer-holder visit days important?

University will be your home for at least three years, so it’s important you can truly see yourself living there. Offer-holder visit days let you experience everything for a day, ranging from your course, accommodation, career opportunities and the social side of university. It’s easy to think you’ve made your mind up based on rankings or social media, but visiting in person gives you a completely different perspective.

Who did I meet?

I met academics, current students, and other prospective students who I might end up studying with. The academics were so passionate about their teaching, which was inspiring. Current students spoke honestly and positively about their experiences, which made everything feel more genuine and reassuring and made me realise the outstanding experiences that students have during their time at Birmingham.

My advice would to future offer holders?

Attend your offer-holder visit day and ask as many questions as possible. Don’t just focus on your course, ask about societies, careers, accommodation, and anything you’re unsure about. It’s the best way to make an informed decision. Go in with an open mind and let the university speak for itself, as you’ll know when it feels right.
