Offer-holder day travel reimbursement

College of Medicine and Health

We want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to attend our offer-holder events. Our Offer Holder Travel reimbursement scheme is available to all contextual offer holders.

The scheme will enable applicants to claim a contribution towards travel costs for attending an interview or an offer-holder visit day.

If eligible, the reimbursement value you can claim is based on the region you are travelling from. Please note that the University can only reimburse travel costs for events that have already been attended.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Offer Holder Travel Reimbursement, you must meet the following criteria:

  • be a prospective UK undergraduate,
  • have attended an interview or offer holder visit day,
  • have received a contextual offer or Pathways to Birmingham offer and meet one (or both) of two criteria:
    • having been in receipt of free school meals in the last 6 years
    • having spent time in local authority care

How to apply

Download and complete our expenses form (.docx, 885kb) and return it to cmh-admissions@contacts.bham.ac.uk along with relevant proof of travel such as receipts and tickets (photographs of these are also accepted). Please include your name and the date you visited the University in the subject header of your email to allow us to process your claim.

You must complete sections one and two of this form, adding details against all fields marked with a red asterisk. If you are claiming for mileage, please also add details in the ‘Mileage Calculator’ section. Please also ensure that all fields marked with a red asterisk are completed in this section as well. The rest of the form will be completed by the University.

Please note, that we will only reimburse applicants up to a maximum amount based on the region that they have travelled from (as detailed below). If your travel was more than this amount, please still submit your proof of travel but only claim for the maximum amount. Please allow at least 6 weeks for your reimbursement to be processed.

The deadline for submission of your claim is 30 June 2025.  Unfortunately, all claims submitted after this date will not be processed.

Assessment process

You will be assessed based on the region you travelled from for your interview or offer holder visit day. You can claim up to a maximum of £20 if you live in Birmingham or the county of the West Midlands, and up to £50 if you live outside those areas. The travel bursary is available for train fare, bus fare or mileage.
