
Medicine in Clearing

Please read this page carefully and complete the form below to apply for the MBChB Medicine and Surgery programme via Clearing. We will only accept applications for Medicine if you complete the form, please do not call the hotline.
Our form will only be open from 08:00 (GMT) until 11:00 (GMT) on Thursday 13 August 2026.
If demand is high, we may close the form early, so we advise you to complete it as soon as possible.
Eligibility criteria
As this is a demanding programme, we will only consider applicants for invitation to interview who meet all of the following criteria:
- A minimum of 3 A Levels at grade A, including Chemistry and a second science from Biology, Physics, or Maths.
- A minimum of 7 GCSE's including English Language, Maths, Biology and Chemistry (or dual award Science) at grade 6/B or higher.
- You must have taken your exams in one academic year/sitting.
- You must provide a UCAT score taken in 2025.
- You are classed as a Home student**.
- You must be aged 18 or over on 1 October on the year of entry.
If you have previously been interviewed for Medicine at the University of Birmingham, but were not offered a place, you will not be eligible to apply.
**Medicine Clearing places are only available to students who are classed as Home students for fees purposes. We are unable to accept any applications from those who would need to pay Overseas fees.
If you do not meet all the above criteria, please do not complete the online application form, as we will not be able to consider you for interview.
Alternative courses
If you are not eligible to apply for a place, we would encourage you to consider Biomedical Sciences as an alternative option. We operate a Medicine-transfer programme from our Biomedical Sciences programmes.

What happens next?
Once Clearing applications close for Medicine at 11:00 (GMT) on Thursday 13 August 2026, our Medicine Admissions team will review all applications received to select a limited number for interview.
Applicants who are selected for a Clearing interview will be contacted by phone from 11:30 (GMT) onwards on Thursday, and will be invited to an online interview which will take place on either:
- Thursday 13 August 2026 - Afternoon
- Friday 14 August 2026 - Morning
No interviews will be confirmed before 11:30 (GMT) on Thursday, so please do not contact the Clearing team to ask about your application status.
The phone call will be followed up by an email confirmation of the interview time and a link to join the online interview via Zoom.
We regret that we are unable to reschedule interviews, so please ensure that you are available and have a good internet connection for the time slot provided.
Following the Thursday and Friday interviews, successful applicants will be notified in the afternoon on Friday 14 August 2026 by the Admissions team, following which the offer will be confirmed by email.
Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email on Thursday 13 August 2026.
Unsuccessful interviewees will be notified by email by the afternoon on Friday 14 August 2026.
