Subject sessions

Led by our academics, our subject sessions bring learning to life through real research, new ideas and interactive activities. Students will get a taste of university-style learning, explore their topics of interest and build confidence in their subject knowledge.
Sessions are available for a range of year groups, and are delivered online, in school or on campus as part of a visit, depending on the topic and format. They can be either subject taster sessions, masterclasses, practical workshops or full-day experiences.
What are subject sessions?
Our academic enrichment programme offers a range of ways for students to explore subjects in more depth:
-
Subject taster sessions: Introductory sessions that explore key ideas and give students a first-hand experience of university-style learning.
-
Masterclasses: In-depth sessions linked to current research and advanced topics within a subject.
-
Curriculum workshops: Sessions designed to complement GCSE and A-level study, helping students deepen their understanding and prepare for the next step.
-
Discovery day programmes: Immersive experiences combining subject sessions with campus activities, giving students a real feel for university life.
-
Multi-session subject experiences: A combination of academic learning and campus activities.
All sessions are designed and delivered by academics from the University of Birmingham, connecting students directly with the people shaping their fields.
