Drone society is one year old, and what a year it has been! We have successfully built, flown, and programmed our 250-drones, and some pre-built mini drones, and are working on developing our drone-focused skillset going forward into 2017/18. Our 250-drones are a joy to fly (although one is in the drone-infirmary at the moment with some minor injuries!). We’re most of the way there with our 450 size drone too, just waiting for a vibration-resistant mount to come back after 3D printing. Our aerobatic skills are coming on well too and we are reliably executing flips and rolls during our controlled indoor flight sessions held weekly at the Guild of Students.

Drone Soc - Mar17

For our preliminary programming sessions, we have started development of an interface which will allow our members to test their drone programs in the safety of a simulated environment before uploading them to the drone to try in the real world. Watch this space for some upcoming aerial photography sessions, (semi-) autonomous flying and lots more drone excitement!

We’d still love to hear from you so if you’d like to come and talk to us about what you do, or if you just want to get in touch and learn more about us, then email eps-community@contacts.bham.ac.uk.
