A team of medical students have joined forces to create Helping Hands to support NHS workers in the West Midlands with childcare provisions during the coronavirus crisis.

As the situation develops in the UK, schools have been shut and many former NHS staff have been called back into the service to help. While schools are still open for children of key workers, which include healthcare professionals, there are still many challenges.

Helping Hands offers to help out with non-clinical tasks such as school picks up, childcare and even simple tasks such as dog walking or going food shopping. Over 600 volunteers have signed-up to help, with most being DBS-checked for their clinical placements. If you’d like to volunteer your time, or you’re a member of the NHS and could do with some support, please head to the dedicated Facebook group
