UoB Professor delivers Additive Manufacturing workshop in Brazil

Professor Moataz Atallah from the School of Metallurgy and Materials delivered a week long, Newton Funded workshop on Additive Manufacturing from November 19-23 at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), Brazil. 

Building on an exisiting academic link with UFPRProfessor Moataz Atallah travelled to UFPR's main campus in Curitiba, Paraná State, to present on a range of topics related to Additive Manufacturing including;  process modelling solutions for metal 3D printing, materials science and maufacturing of Ni-superalloys, as well as powder characterization and processing.

Professor Atallah said, "I  am thankful for the enthusiastic, engaged audience who keenly followed the lectures, raising interesting discussions about the applications of AM that could be relevant to the industrial sectors in Brazil. The workshop identified potential lines of collaboration with UFPR, and I hope to submit research proposals in the near future and to visit Curitiba again soon."

The visit presented an excellent opportunity to further promote and raise the profile of the outstanding work and reserach undertaken within the School of Metallurgy and Materials at the University of Birmingham, consolidate our exisiting partnership with UFPR, and explore further opportunities to develop areas of international cooperation.
