Our state-of-the-art facility boasts a diverse range of capabilities, empowering researchers with cutting-edge tools for scientific research.  We offer a comprehensive platform for research, ranging from advanced microscopy and imaging techniques to material analysis, mechanical properties analysis, and particle sizing.

The facility was established in 2005 with the support of the former regional development agency, Advantage West Midlands, and the European Research and Development Fund. At the heart of our mission is accessibility. The laboratory is open to all students, to ensure affordability, equipment access and usage fees are based on University FEC rates, making it a cost-effective choice for both University of Birmingham students and businesses alike.
