The Value of the Chamberlain Award for students who commenced their studies in 2014/15 to 2019/20 is as follows.

If you qualify for an award, payment for the academic year will be made in two equal instalments: one in late January and one in early May. Payment will be made directly into the bank account you have nominated for your Maintenance Loan.

Care Leavers are eligible to receive the Enhanced Chamberlain Award as an alternative to the standard Chamberlain Award. You cannot hold both an Enhanced Chamberlain Award and a standard one.

This award is available to undergraduate students with a household income verified by Student Finance as being below £25,000, or below £60,000 if you belong to one of our priority groups.
Chamberlain Award 2024 entryUniversityCloses 31/12/2024

The standard Chamberlain Award for 2024 entry is £2,000 per year of study, subject to continued eligibility and normal academic progression. Awards will be paid in two equal instalments: one in late January 2025 and one in early May 2025. Payment will be made directly into the bank account you have nominated for your Maintenance Loan.

Students eligible for a standard Chamberlain Award who are from a Polar 4 quintile 1 area, are care experienced or estranged as verified by the Student Loans Company,  and decide to live in University-owned accommodation will receive an additional one-off award of £1,000 (in their first year of study only). Please note that this excludes all partner accommodation, including Oak Brook Park, Battery Park, The Metalworks and Selly Oak Court. This additional award will be applied as a reduction in your accomodation fees from the end of January in your first year.  You will receive an email notification on 26 January 2025 if you are eligible for the accommodation award. There is no cash alternative.

If your household income is 25,000 or less, or £60,000 or less and you belong to one of our priority groups, you may be entitled to additional financial support from the University through the £2,000 Chamberlain Award.
Disability AwardsUniversityClosed 31/12/2023 (Note: competition closed for this year)

Up to five awards of up to £600 are usually available. Each award is tenable for one year only, however previous applicants may reapply in subsequent years.

Offering awards of around £600, this scheme is open to all students currently studying at the University who have a disability.
Eliz Challenor Undergraduate ScholarshipExternal, UniversityClosed 31/12/2022 (Note: competition closed for this year)

Awards for ex-pupils of Sir John Tablbot's School are valued at £3,000 per academic year. 

Those who make a successful application under the resident of Shropshire criteria will receive £1,000 per academic year

The award will be tenable for each year of study for successful scholars subject to normal academic progression, please note that awards are not available during a year in industry or year abroad.

Valued at up to £3,000, this award is available to students entering the University as an ex-pupil of Sir John Talbot's School or residents of Shropshire.
Elizabeth Murray Centenary ScholarshipUniversityClosed 31/01/2024 (Note: competition closed for this year)

Each scholarship is valued at £2,000.

Successful candidates will continue to receive this scholarship in subsequent years of study, provided academic progression is maintained at a 2:1 standard. 

Open to full-time UK undergraduate students who have entered the second year of either a programme in Nursing or Physiotherapy, or a BA programme in the Institute of Applied Social Studies
Gateway To Work Experience BursaryUniversityNo deadline; open-ended award

The Bursary is designed to support students in covering the costs associated with unpaid or low-paid work experience. It is not designed to be a wage substitute. Eligible students can apply for up to a maximum of £2500. The amount you apply for will depend on the individual circumstances of your proposed work experience up to the maximum amount. In the past bursaries have supported in covering expenses including:

  • Accommodation
  • Travel
  • Living costs
  • Utilities bills
  • Insurance
  • Childcare
Careers Network provide a bursary is to assist Birmingham Scholars in improving their personal and professional development by allowing them to take up critical experiences they may otherwise not be able to afford.
Geoffrey Ma Birmingham Hong Kong Undergraduate ScholarshipExternal, UniversityCloses 31/07/2024The scholarship award is for £15,000 towards tuition fees for the first year only of a full-time undergraduate degree programme at the University starting September 2024.The Geoffrey Ma Birmingham Hong Kong Undergraduate Scholarship comprises a limited number of awards of £15,000 to provide support to students study at the University of Birmingham in 2024/25.
Music ScholarshipUniversityCloses 07/06/2024Each scholarship will offer approximately 17 hours of musical tuition per year for three years and will be administered by the Birmingham Conservatoire (in the case of instrumental tuition) and the UoB Department of Music (in the case of vocal tuition). This musical tuition will have a cash value of £1,000 per year, or £3,000 over the lifetime of the award.Offering 17 hours of tuition each year (equivalent to a total of £3,000), this offers talented musicians entering the University, in a discipline other than Music, the chance to further their musical development.
Pathways to Birmingham ScholarshipUniversityNo deadline; open-ended award

The scholarship is valued at £1,500 per year of study and is renewable subject to the terms and conditions.

 

The Pathways to Birmingham Scholarship is for students who enter the University through a PTB programme and who meet the eligibility criteria.
Sanctuary ScholarshipUniversityClosed 03/03/2024 (Note: competition closed for this year)

 Sanctuary Scholars will receive:

  • A full-tuition fee waiver for the duration of your course.
  • A yearly £5,000 payment to help with study costs, paid monthly.
  • A fully-funded place in University-owned accommodation for the duration of your course.
  • A welcome pack with useful resources to help get your studies off to a great start.
