Alwyn (Pittu) Didar Singh was until recently the Secretary General, FICCI. He is a former civil servant who previously served as the Secretary to Government of India in the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs. Prior to this, he was Member (Finance), National Highways Authority of India, Department of Road Transport and Highways at New Delhi. He has also served as Joint Secretary with the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Ministry of Commerce (Foreign Trade). Dr. Didar Singh was also Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), India Chapter; Director General, Indian Council of Arbitration and Director on Board of Invest India (a JV of FICCI and Govt. of India). 

Dr Singh has functioned as Independent Director/Nominee Director on Boards of NTPC, BHEL; HMT; Engineering Projects India Ltd.; HEC; BYNL; Cement Corporation of India Ltd and Andrew Yule. He is presently member Advisory Board, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar and member Governing Councils of St. Stephens Hospital and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi. 

Dr. Singh was member of the Global Agenda Council on Migration (2012-15) of the prestigious World Economic Forum (WEF) and has been conferred an Award for his service to the Indian Diaspora by GOPIO International (Global Organization of People of Indian Origin). He functions as Chair of the Diaspora group of KNOMAD, World Bank. He was named as Distinguished Alumnus St Stephen’s College in 2012 and was in July 2014 also awarded an Hony. PhD (DUniv) from the University of Birmingham. He was recently appointed Member on the India-Indonesia Eminent Persons Group (EPG) by the Ministry of External Affairs, GOI. 

Dr. Didar Singh is an internationally known expert in e-Commerce and ICT development. He has the distinction of having done the first PhD in India on the Policy and Administration of e-Commerce. Singh has done several studies in the area of ICT strategy and e-Commerce for international agencies, including the International Trade Centre; World Health Organization; and South Centre, Geneva as well as the Commonwealth Secretariat, London. He has presented a number of papers and made presentations at Conferences on the subjects of E-Commerce and Trade both in India and abroad. 

He served as Managing Director of two Information Technology enterprises in Punjab, India where he was instrumental in establishing an IT Park and satellite earth station at Mohali in late 90’s.

PhD (DUniv) from the University of Birmingham.
