I appreciated the unique charm of Birmingham the city, especially with its beautiful red-brick buildings and stunning scenery around the campus, which felt quite different from my home country. How can I contact the team?

For all general queries about becoming an international student at Birmingham, please complete and submit our enquiry form.

Your country representative is Jhao-Yu Lin. The team will be happy to answer any queries you might have, please send an email and they will respond as quickly as possible.

The British Council has offices in many countries throughout the world which are able to provide you with advice about studying in the UK. Most offices also have an education library and Internet facilities where you can consult university material. The British Council can also provide advice about funding opportunities.

Entry Requirements

Undergraduate

Entry requirements for applicants with qualifications from Japan

  • GCE A Level examinations or a recognised foundation programme
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) - 32 points overall for entrance to most of our undergraduate programmes, certain courses will require specific grades and subjects at Higher Level

Many students who have studied in Japan have followed a 12 year education system. For admission onto an Undergraduate degree programme, the University of Birmingham requires all applicants to have studied for 13 years, and therefore you may need to take a foundation year before commencing your undergraduate programme.

Postgraduate

Entry requirements for applicants with qualifications from Japan

Students with a Bachelor degree from a recognised university in Japan will be considered for entry to a postgraduate Masters degree provided they achieve a sufficiently high overall score in their first (Bachelor) degree. A GPA of 3.0/4.0 or a B average from a good Japanese university is usually considered equivalent to a UK 2:1.

Students with a Masters degree from a recognised university in Japan will be considered for PhD study. A high overall grade will be necessary to be considered.
