Business School alumni in Shanghai had two opportunities to network and meet with fellow graduates in March.

Gloria Barber, Postgraduate Employer Liaison Manager from the Business School’s Careers in Business team travelled to China on a joint trip with the University of Nottingham Business School to visit employers and form stronger links with Chinese business.

While there, Gloria hosted two events - one social and one career-focused - where alumni could catch up with each other and find out the latest from Birmingham.

On Wednesday 16th March, 21 alumni got together at Chalet Bar & Grill in Shanghai for food, drinks and networking. Gloria and the alumni team would like to give huge thanks to alumna Lindsay Yao, based in Shanghai, who sourced and arranged the venue and encouraged fellow alumni to attend, making the event a huge success.

Lindsay said: "It was fantastic to meet so many alumni. Graduates from different Business School programmes with diverse background got together, shared their memorable time at university and discussed business insights.

“We all felt like part of a big family with very strong connections and we really appreciated the effort and enthusiasm from the University to make the event happen. We are  proud UoBers and we really enjoyed being connected, hearing from University and how we could be involved in its development in the future.”

The following evening, recent alumni who had returned to China following university, attended a ‘Kick Start Your Career’ event, with tips on how to secure work now their degrees were completed. Representatives from Pay Pal, KPMG, CPA Australia and Michael Page shared their insights on the Chinese job market as well as what they look for from job applications. Following on from these presentations, there were opportunities to ask questions and take part in a networking event.
