In her research paper presentation for the HSR UK Conference 2020, HSMC Director Professor Judith Smith discusses the work of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) funded Birmingham, RAND Europe and Cambridge (BRACE) Rapid Evaluation Centre in evaluating the development and early implementation of Primary Care Networks.
This study explored what can be learnt from prior research evidence about GP collaborations, and entailed research in four case study Primary Care Networks to examine their early progress, and what is helping and hindering this type of working. The research has a particular focus on the experience of rural as well as urban collaborations, and those places where collaborative working in primary care may have struggled previously to become established.
The authors of the research paper and the overall PCNs study are: Judith Smith, Sarah Parkinson, Amelia Harshfield and Manbinder Sidhu. The full report of this research will be published by NIHR later in 2020.
