Award Description

The School has access to a number of Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) PhD studentships (at UK/EU fee level) to offer for doctoral researchers beginning their PhD research in the Environmental Health Sciences, Geosystems and Water Sciences research groups.


Projects which will be considered for funding are listed on our website.

For the Human Geogrpahy Research Group, the School also puts forward candidates for PhD funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) via the doctoral research training partnerships of which it is a member. More information is available on the DTP websites for the AHRC and ESRC.

Fees and maintenance grant.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should have, or be predicted to obtain, a good undergraduate degree (at least a 2:1 or international equivalent) in a related discipline. For some programmes a Masters degree is also required.

The deadline for NERC awards applications is 22nd January 2018. 

The deadline for AHRC applications is the 15th January 2018.

The deadline for ESRC applications is the 18th January 2018.
