AntConc – exploring your own corpus

ERI Building 363
Wednesday 7 November 2018 (14:00-16:00)

Instructor: Akira Murakami (University of Birmingham)
Venue: ERI Building 363

This session introduces AntConc, a user-friendly general-purpose concordancing software tool that allows analysts to explore corpora. The basic functions in AntConc include concordancing, the extraction of clusters and collocations, creation of word lists, and identification of keywords in a corpus in comparison to another. We will go over each function in turn and see how it can be used to analyse corpus data. The session also introduces important concepts in corpus linguistics such as n-grams and lemmatisation.
