We use the most powerful telescopes ever built to explore the cosmos, and are part of the world-wide effort to build the next generation of telescopes and surveys that will use them. Birmingham extragalactic astronomers play leading roles in the following international survey telescopes and related collaborations:
- Vera Rubin Observatory's Legacy Survey of Space and Time (Rubin/LSST)
- Gravitational-Wave Optical Transient Observer (GOTO)
- 4-metre Multi-Object Spectroscopic Telescope (4MOST)
- WHT Enhanced Area Velocity Explorer (WEAVE)
- The European Space Agency's Euclid satellite
- Electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave sources at the Very Large Telescope (ENGRAVE)
- Cosmological Advanced Survey Telescope for Optical and ultraviolet Research (CASTOR)
- Mauna Kea Spectroscopic Explorer (MSE)

Our recent PI-led observing campaigns with major international space- and ground-based telecopes include with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), the Viktor M. Blanco 4-meter Telescope (Blanco/DECam), Gemini-North and South 8-meter telescopes, and the Liverpool Telescope.
