PhD student, School of Chemistry
What is your research background and current field of research?
Previously I did my masters here at the Universtiy of Birmingham where I studied how the functionality of high energy desnity materials influenced their impact sensitvity. Currently I am undretaking my PhD under David Scanlon where I am looking into the Li-N-H chemical phases space for potential next generation lithium-ion solid electrolytes.
Which BEAR Services have been most helpful to you in your research?
The BlueBEAR HPC is an essential resource which I use on a dialy basis to perform various Denisty Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, Molecular Dynaimics (MD) simulations and Machine Learnt Interatomic Potenital (MLIP) training. As well the RDS is indensible to my work as it provides a safe and secure place to store the output of these various calcuations/simulations.
How widespread do you think BEAR Services are known in your School and how do you plan to spread the word?
Within the smaller subset of computational chemistry BlueBEAR & the RDS are widely used with researchers also taking part in the various training courses offered by BEAR Services. However in the wider school of chemistry the resources offered by BEAR are less known with only certain research groups using the RDS. I'd like to raise awareness of the full range of BEAR services offered to the wider school of chemistry, especially the training courses and RSE provisions as these skills are still essential for experimental chemists.
What's an interesting fact about you?
In my free time I enjoy rock climbing, photography and watching "bad" films.
