Cortical dynamics and inter-areal interactions in attention and prediction

Abstract

In this talk, I will discuss our recent work on inter-areal interactions and dynamics in the cortex, focusing on attention and predictive processing. First, I will show evidence for distinct feedforward and feedback modulation of cortical activity with attention, and contrast firing rate vs. coherence based mechanisms. Second, I will discuss our work on the propagation and cell-type specific consequences of rhythmic gamma synchronization, studying both endogenous rhythms as well as optogenetic and flicker stimuli. Third, I will discuss our work on the functional role of rhythmic gamma synchronization in relation to predictive and efficient coding.
