International Visiting Research Fellowship Scheme 2026

CHASM is pleased to announce that applications for the 2026 International Visiting Research Fellowship Scheme are now open. The deadline for applications is Monday, 23 February 2026.
The International Visiting Research Fellowship Scheme continues to foster valuable global collaborations, bringing together visiting academics and CHASM researchers to advance innovative, policy-relevant work. Reflections from our most recent Fellows highlight the depth of engagement and meaningful impact generated through these partnerships.
We invite applications from international researchers whose interests align with CHASM’s core themes:
• Wealth, Assets and Inequality
• Poverty, Precarity, Saving and Debt
• Risk and Financial Wellbeing in Later Life
Fellowship Expectations
Successful applicants will spend a minimum of two weeks at CHASM, University of Birmingham (UK), before the end of 2026, with opportunities for continued joint research activity beyond the visit. Fellows will have access to office space and IT facilities during their stay, where needed.
Fellows will be expected to:
- Collaborate on research with one or more of CHASM’s core members, leading to at least one high-quality academic output within 12 months and, where appropriate, additional outputs with potential for wider impact.
- Deliver a research seminar or contribute as a speaker at a CHASM event, sharing insights from their current work as part of the Centre’s research series.
- Produce a policy-relevant blog on an area of their expertise for publication on the CHASM website.
Funding
The fellowship provides up to £5,000 to support economy airfare, accommodation, and research-related costs included in the proposal. Please note that subsistence costs (e.g., food, drink, and local travel) are not covered.
Selection Criteria
Applicants will be assessed on their CV, research proposal, and the relevance and potential contribution of their work to CHASM’s ongoing research priorities.
How to Apply
Applicants should submit the following by email:
- Letter of application outlining the proposed research area, anticipated publication(s), plans for collaboration with CHASM academics (including agreed timing), and any prior discussions with prospective CHASM partners.
