Education within Institute of Robotics
Robotics is a multidisciplinary subject covering hardware, software and AI and there is currently a worldwide skills shortage of experts in robotics. The use of robotic systems is rapidly increasing and is at the heart of Industry 4.0 and more advanced intelligent robotics will be central to Industry 5.0. Furthermore, where robots were historically only seen in manufacturing and industry, they are now finding applications in a broad range of sectors and environments. At the University of Birmingham, we offer a number of robotics programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
At undergraduate level, we offer we offer the following programmes:
Our programmes aim to equip graduates with the mechanical, computing, and electronic and electrical engineering skills to address the challenges of designing and deploying robotic technologies.
At postgraduate level, we offer the following programmes:
- Robotics Masters/MSc, which is aimed at graduates with previous programming experience wishing to explore theories of intelligent robotic control and the software tools required to implement algorithms in mobile robots and robot manipulators.
- Computational Neuroscience and Cognitive Robotics MSc, which is an interdisciplinary programme that integrates the rapidly developing fields of computational neuroscience and cognitive robotics.
In addition to taught programmes with also offer postgraduate research opportunities in robotics at both MSc and PhD level.
