Surfaces and Interfaces

The surfaces and interfaces of matter, where it interacts with other matter, can be engineered to perform novel functions. We are developing new technologies and materials with enhanced surface and interfacial characteristics, to improve the efficiency of processes and increase product performance.

Our areas of expertise
• Mechanical characterisation of micro-/nanoparticles, and particle-substrate interactions
• Development of micromanipulation-based instruments
• Contact mechanics between skin and surfaces
• Cell mechanics, cell separation and biomaterials
• Fouling: biofilm growth and detachment, food fouling and control
